Spring Awakening

2024

48in X 36in

Acrylic, modeling paste, paint pens, leaves from Baltimore’s spring plants on canvas

This work represents my personal journey, mirrored in the life cycle of a flowering plant. Once a vibrant local bloom in my hometown – India, I transplanted myself to a new world – America, like a plant establishing itself in foreign soil.

Exhibited in “The Big Show” at the Main Gallery, Creative Alliance, Baltimore, MD

Poem by Mansi Yaduka-

In a distant garden, I once flourished with ease,

A delicate bloom, in a familiar breeze.

But then I ventured on a journey to self-discovery,

Across the vast unknown, where my roots were tested frequently.

The new soil was unforgiving, and winters chill,

Left me half-alive, and my spirit still.

Yet, as the seasons unfolded, I underwent a metamorphosis,

and my petals began to unfurl slowly

Now, as spring’s warm light awakens, I feel my grace,

Unfurling, like a lotus, in a newfound place.

My journey has been long, but I have found my way,

To bloom again, in a beauty that’s been refined by each day.

In this new garden, I have discovered my strength,

To flourish anew, in a foreign way

My roots now run deep, and my petals shine bright,

A flower reborn, in a radiant, gentle light.
